The medieval town of Montepulciano is surrounded by rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves. Famous worldwide for vino Nobile, it is one of Tuscany’s prettiest towns. We take off from the grounds of Relais Ortaglia, a 17th century Tuscan villa on the outskirts of Montepulciano. Please see our links page for more details if you wish to stay at Relais Ortaglia.

Directions from Montepulciano to the Montepulciano launch site
From the southern end of Montepulciano take the SP146 West towards Pienza.
After passing a TAMOIL garage on your left, carry on for a further 1.5 km where you will see a signposted driveway on the left to Ortaglia (Brown sign) – DO NOT go up this drive.
Carry on the SP146 for a further 1/4 km and take the next driveway on the left, signposted ‘Agriturismo’. It is just before the ‘Rubeca Motori’ sign. The launch field is immediately on your left when you enter this drive.
Unless you arrive very early, you should see our balloon sign at the entrance to the driveway.
Directions from Pienza to the Montepulciano launch site
Leave Pienza on the SP146 signposted Montepulciano.
After approximately 10 km you will see Casa Vinicola Triacca on the right.
Carry on for a further ¼ km and Just after the Rubeca Motori sign, turn right into the driveway signposted ‘agriturismo’. Unless you arrive very early, you should also see our balloon sign at the entrance to the driveway.
The launch field is immediately on your left when you enter this drive.
Backup Locations
On rare occasions, we can’t fly from our chosen launch site for one reason or another. So, in order to be able to fly, the pilot will decide to move the flight to our nearest suitable backup site. If we have to change launch site for reasons outside of our control, we will write this very clearly on our Flight Status page that you will be checking the day before your flight to also see at what time the flight is called on in the morning. Late Arrival
As with any commercial flight, if you miss your flight no refund will be due but if you think you are going to be late you can try to contact the pilot on the mobile number you will be given after you have booked your flight. There is no guarantee that you would be able to contact the pilot in the morning since the mobile phone signal might not be good at the launch site and after the balloon is inflated, about 20-30 minutes after the meeting time, it might not be possible to delay the launch. If you miss your flight we would try to fit you in to a flight one of the following mornings, subject to available spaces.
